Mike Flanagan's Carrie series to premiere on Prime Video

A new television series adaptation of Stephen King’s “Carrie,” directed by Mike Flanagan, was featured at the Toronto International Film Festival. The series is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on October 7, with all eight episodes arriving simultaneously.

This version departs from previous book and film adaptations by reimagining Carrie White’s origins. In this iteration, Carrie (played by Summer H. Howell) has been homeschooled and isolated from the world until her father’s death in a construction accident. To avoid losing custody, her mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan), enrolls her in public school for the first time.

The production aims to modernize the classic horror story by incorporating elements of the digital age, such as the impact of social media and online bullying, alongside the protagonist's developing telekinetic powers. Stephen King has reportedly expressed praise for the work.
