Mike Heller fills in for Anthrax drummer in San Antonio

Drummer Mike Heller, known for his work with Raven and formerly Fear Factory, performed a last-minute fill-in set for Anthrax at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Heller received a call at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, September 30, to replace Charlie Benante for a performance alongside Iron Maiden and Megadeth.

Heller reported that he was unfamiliar with the band’s repertoire prior to the call. He spent less than an hour with the members of Anthrax to learn the live arrangements of their songs before performing in front of an estimated 56,000 people. The reason for Benante’s absence from the show has not been disclosed.
