Pakistan Cricket Board overhauls squad and coaching staff mid-England tour

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has initiated a major overhaul of its national team during the ongoing Test series in England. Following consecutive defeats, the board has released seven players, including Mohammad Rizwan, Imam-ul-Haq, and Salman Ali Agha, and replaced head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul. Mike Hesson has been appointed as the interim Test coach for the final match at Edgbaston.

Reports indicate that the removal of Rizwan and Imam was driven not only by poor on-field performance but also by concerns regarding their conduct in the dressing room. Additionally, chief selector Aaqib Javed is reportedly facing removal from his position, with potential reassignment to the Lahore High Performance Center.

Adding to the internal turmoil, the PCB has reportedly confiscated the mobile phones of several players as part of an investigation, though the specific nature of the inquiry has not been disclosed. Meanwhile, interim coach Mike Hesson has dismissed speculation that Salman Ali Agha’s absence from a meeting with King Charles III was a protest against the squad changes, stating the players were notified of their absence in advance.
