Pakistan cricket team sanctioned with heavy fines and WTC point deductions
The Pakistan cricket team has faced severe sanctions from the International Cricket Council (ICC) following their third Test against England at Edgbaston. Due to a slow over-rate where the team bowled 11 overs fewer than required, the ICC has imposed a maximum financial penalty of 50 per cent of match fees for the players. Additionally, Pakistan has been docked 11 World Test Championship (WTC) points.
These penalties have significantly impacted Pakistan's standing in the WTC, dropping their points percentage to 4.63 and leaving them at the bottom of the ninth-place table. This follows a previous 8-point deduction for a slow over-rate during a Test against Bangladesh in May.
The team's performance in England has been marked by instability. After losing the first two matches of the series, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) overhauled the squad, dropping seven players and replacing head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed. Mike Hesson, currently the white-ball coach, has taken over as interim Test coach and expressed openness to a permanent role, citing the talent available in the system despite the recent 0-3 series whitewash.
