Mike Huckabee warns of staffing gaps in Gaza peace initiative

U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee has issued a warning to Washington regarding potential failures in the Trump administration’s Gaza peace initiative. In a diplomatic cable from the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem, Huckabee cited inadequate staffing, uncertain funding, and unresolved military support questions as primary risks to the plan.

A central concern involves the International Gaza Support Center (IGSC), which coordinates efforts between the United States, Israel, and international partners. As the Pentagon prepares to reduce military personnel at the center and transition responsibilities to civilian staff, Huckabee cautioned that the embassy and the newly established Board of Peace (BoP) currently lack the human and logistical resources to manage these duties.

Additional concerns were raised regarding the speed of the Board of Peace in establishing a ground presence and the potential for reconstruction delays to undermine the authority of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza. While the Board of Peace issued a statement asserting its systems are “strong and ready for implementation,” the embassy continues to press for clarity and additional resources to stabilize the region.
