Mike Johnson attributes U.S. economic headwinds to Iran conflict
House Speaker Mike Johnson attributed recent American economic difficulties to the conflict with Iran during an appearance on Fox News. Johnson stated that Congress had established conditions for the economy to ‘take off like a rocket’ earlier in the year, but identified the conflict as a ‘big headwind’ that has since hindered progress.
Addressing concerns regarding the cost of housing and healthcare for younger Americans, Johnson argued against increasing government involvement, stating that ‘the answer is not to turn everything over to the government, because that never works.’
The comments come amid growing criticism from some conservatives regarding the nation's worsening economic state. While Johnson suggested the conflict would end soon, allowing gas and grocery prices to stabilize, Iran has maintained its blockade on the Strait of Hormuz.
