Mike Judge seeks to reclaim rights to Beavis and Butt-Head
Mike Judge, the creator of the animated series ‘Beavis and Butt-Head’, has reportedly informed Paramount of his intention to exercise termination rights to reclaim the franchise. According to reports from Puck News, Judge may have sent a “termination letter” to the company.
Under U.S. copyright law, creators can often reclaim rights to their work after 35 years from the date of the original agreement. If the original deal was established around 1992, Judge could potentially regain control of the series by 2027.
While the move does not imply the series is ending, it could lead to significant changes, such as the franchise moving to a different streaming service. Neither Judge nor Paramount has issued an official statement regarding the report. The series, which originally premiered on MTV in 1993, has seen various revivals, including a recent return to Paramount+ and a reboot on Comedy Central.
