Mike Lawler demands disclosure of electricity discounts for Rockland data centers

Congressman Mike Lawler has called on Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York Power Authority (NYPA) to disclose the value of electricity discounts provided to data centers in Rockland County. The demand follows reports that three of the four data centers in Orangeburg receive discounted hydropower through the state’s ReCharge NY program.

NYPA has declined to release specific rates or savings amounts, citing proprietary and contractual information. Lawler has requested the disclosure of the total annual value of these discounts and the average benefit provided to participants to ensure transparency for local ratepayers.

NYPA describes ReCharge NY as an economic development initiative that offers competitively priced hydropower to eligible businesses and nonprofits in exchange for capital investments and job commitments. Identified recipients in Orangeburg include Bloomberg L.P., DataBank Holdings, and 1547 CSR-Orangeburg.
