Mike Layton enters Toronto municipal election race

Mike Layton has officially announced his candidacy for the University-Rosedale seat in the upcoming Toronto municipal election. Layton, who served as a city councillor for the area from 2010 to 2022, filed the necessary paperwork on Monday.

Layton stated that his decision to return to politics was prompted by requests from neighbors and a desire to address pressing urban issues, including affordable housing, climate change, and cyclist safety. His campaign aims to support a progressive city council.

The race for the University-Rosedale riding will feature a contest against the incumbent, Dianne Saxe. Layton is the son of the late federal NDP leader Jack Layton and the stepson of Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow.
