Mike Leigh discusses health challenges at London premiere
British filmmaker Mike Leigh expressed regret that his health may prevent him from making more films while attending the London premiere of his latest work, ‘Tender Loving Care’. The 83-year-old director is living with myositis, an autoimmune disease that affects the muscles and requires him to use a walking stick.
‘Tender Loving Care’ follows two social workers supporting vulnerable individuals and has already received critical acclaim, winning the top prize at the San Sebastian film festival. The film is expected to be Leigh’s final feature. Actress Alice Bailey Johnson noted she felt ‘heartbroken’ at the possibility of it being his last work but expressed honor in participating in the project.
