Mike McDaniel named Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator

Mike McDaniel has joined the Los Angeles Chargers as offensive coordinator, serving under head coach Jim Harbaugh. Harbaugh expressed high praise for McDaniel, noting that he was at the top of the list of available offensive minds and describing him as a great fit for quarterback Justin Herbert due to their shared intelligence and vision.

While McDaniel is often associated with high-speed passing attacks, Harbaugh characterized him as a “run-game guy” at heart.

However, some former players have expressed skepticism regarding the long-term viability of McDaniel’s scheme. Former Chargers defensive tackle Breiden Fehokose warned that the offense could be viewed as a “gimmick” that may struggle once opposing defenses adapt, emphasizing the need for a strong offensive line and a consistent run game to succeed in the postseason.
