Mike Mignola expands fantasy universe with Uri Tupka & les dieux

Mike Mignola continues to expand his new fantasy universe with the release of ‘Uri Tupka & les dieux’, published by Éditions Delcourt. Following the inaugural volume, ‘Le carnaval des cadavres’, this new installment follows the protagonist, Uri Tupka, on a pilgrimage to find gods who appear to have abandoned the world.

During his journey, Tupka encounters various creatures, including dragons, giants, and demons, while uncovering buried secrets about the universe. The narrative is structured as a series of short tales that follow the character's quest for answers and his struggle to understand the meaning of his convictions.

Critics have noted Mignola’s masterful use of shadows and black ink, complemented by colors from Dave Stewart. While the world-building is described as rich and intriguing, some reviews suggest the storytelling could benefit from a deeper emotional connection to the characters.
