Mike Onwenu placed on injured reserve by New England Patriots

The New England Patriots have placed starting right guard Mike Onwenu on injured reserve following an ankle injury sustained during their 20-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Onwenu was carted off the field in the first half after Steelers linebacker T. J. Watt landed on his ankle while attempting a sack.

While the team has not officially confirmed the severity, reports from ESPN indicate that Onwenu suffered a broken right ankle. Coach Mike Vrabel noted that the lineman is unlikely to be available in the short term. The move requires Onwenu to miss at least four games, though the injury could potentially sideline him for the remainder of the season.

In related roster moves, the Patriots promoted punter Mitch Wishnowsky from the practice squad to the active roster and signed tight end Tanner Conner to the practice squad. Veteran Greg Van Roten finished Sunday's game in place of Onwenu.
