Mike Patton performs Juan Gabriel tribute in Mexico City

Musician Mike Patton, known for Faith No More, performed an unexpected tribute to Mexican icon Juan Gabriel during a concert at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City. The performance took place as part of his Mondo Cane project during the 54th edition of the Festival Internacional Cervantino.

Patton’s set included a wide range of orchestral Italian pop classics from the 1950s and 1960s, such as ‘Il cielo in una stanza’ and ‘Urlo Negro’. The concert also featured a nod to Spanish-language music with an interpretation of ‘Balada triste de trompetas’. The emotional highlight for the audience was Patton’s rendition of ‘Hasta que te conocí’, one of Juan Gabriel’s most famous songs. Patton expressed deep emotion regarding the reception from the Mexican public, stating, ‘For us it is the first time here, it is an absolute dream.’
