Mike Rizzo set to interview for Houston Astros general manager position

Former Washington Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo is expected to interview for the vacant general manager position with the Houston Astros. Following the departure of Dana Brown in August, the Astros are accelerating their search for a successor.

Rizzo is widely recognized for transforming the Washington Nationals from a struggling franchise into a 2019 World Series champion. His tenure was marked by significant talent acquisitions, including drafting Bryce Harper and Stephen Strasberg as number one overall picks, and executing a major trade involving Juan Soto that brought in key players like James Wood and CJ Abrams.

Previously, Rizzo served as a scout for the Arizona Diamondbacks, where he was among those who identified the potential of pitcher Byung-Hyun Kim. While Rizzo was also considered a candidate for the Oakland Athletics' general manager role, he reportedly withdrew from consideration to pursue the opportunity in Houston.
