Mike Slipchuk to step down as Skate Canada High-Performance Director

Skate Canada has announced that Mike Slipchuk will step down from his position as High-Performance Director at the conclusion of the 2026–2027 competitive season. This transition marks the end of a 20-year tenure during which Slipchuk has led Canada’s High-Performance Programming since 2006.

Under Slipchuk’s leadership, Canadian figure skaters secured 10 Olympic and 24 world championship medals. Notable achievements include the 2018 Pyeongchang Games, where Canada won four Olympic medals, including gold for ice dancers Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir. Other major successes include Patrick Chan’s three consecutive men’s world titles from 2011 to 2013.

To facilitate a seamless transition, Slipchuk will remain with Skate Canada in an advisory capacity following his departure from the director role to provide strategic guidance and support key initiatives. The organization has opened a search for a new full-time High-Performance Director.
