Former NBA player and Georgetown basketball star Mike Sweetney has died at the age of 43. His wife, India, announced the news via social media, though no official cause of death has been released.

Sweetney was selected ninth overall in the 2003 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks, a class that included players such as LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony. He played two seasons with the Knicks and two seasons with the Chicago Bulls, averaging 6.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game during his four-year NBA career.

Prior to his professional career, Sweetney was a standout at Georgetown University, where he earned All-American honors. Following his time in the NBA, he continued his professional basketball career internationally, playing in various countries including China, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
