Mike Tyson reflects on discipline and upcoming Netflix documentary

Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson has reflected on the essential role of discipline in achieving success. Tyson emphasizes that talent is insufficient without the persistence to overcome obstacles, stating, “If you don’t have discipline, you are nobody, because you give up at the slightest difficulty.”

He attributes this philosophy to his mentor, Cus D’Amato, who taught him that mental fortitude is as vital as physical skill. Tyson defines discipline as “doing what you hate to do, but doing it as if you loved it,” a mindset that helped him become the youngest heavyweight champion in 1986 at age 20.

These reflections are central to his upcoming four-part Netflix documentary, titled ‘Tyson’, scheduled for release on October 13, 2026. Directed by Floyd Russ, the series will explore his life from his beginnings in Brooklyn to the peak of his professional career.
