Mike Vandekamp joins Pacific Coast Hockey Academy as U15 head coach

Mike Vandekamp, the former head coach of the Cowichan Valley Capitals, has been appointed as the new U15 head coach for the Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (PCHA). Vandekamp brings over 30 years of experience in junior hockey, having served as both a head coach and general manager. His career highlights include championships in the BCHL and AJHL, an Allen Cup Championship, and a recent VIJHL Championship with the Victoria Cougars in the 2025-26 season.

PCHA director Kelly Shields stated that Vandekamp was the academy’s first choice, citing his ability to build culture and establish high standards. He replaces Brett Hopwo, who departed to become the director of player personnel for the WHL’s Portland Winterhawks. Vandekamp previously held two stints as the general manager and head coach for the Cowichan Valley Capitals.
