Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini scandal dominates NFL coverage

Photographs of New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel and sports journalist Dianna Russini together at an Arizona resort were published by the New York Post, sparking a media frenzy. Both are married to other people—Vrabel to his wife Jen since 1999 and Russini to Shake Shack executive Kevin Goldschmidt since 2020—and have denied any wrongdoing, saying they were simply with separate groups of friends. Additional images allegedly show the pair kissing in a New York bar in 2020 and on a private boat in Tennessee.

Vrabel addressed the controversy at a press conference before the 2026 NFL Draft, stating, "I’ve had some difficult conversations with people that I care about… We never want our actions to negatively affect the team." Russini resigned from The Athletic amid the fallout. NFL insider Ian Rapoport noted, "I don’t blame the media. I really don’t because the public thirst is there," emphasizing the story’s grip on public interest. Analysts predict the scandal will linger until the Patriots’ on‑field performance either overshadows it or amplifies scrutiny, but expect attention to eventually shift to other league news.
