Mike Waltz says October 7 attacks backfired on Iran

Speaking at a United Nations commemoration for the October 7, 2023, attacks on Israel, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz stated that the assault by Hamas has “completely, and I think irreversibly has backfired” on Iran and its proxies.

Waltz noted that this is the first anniversary commemoration where all hostages taken during the initial attack have been returned, either alive or as remains for burial. He credited President Donald Trump for directing envoys, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and himself, to ensure the captives were returned home.

The Ambassador highlighted the stories of survivors and former hostages, including Eliya Cohen and Ziv Abud, who met during the attacks and have since married. He also noted the return of the remains of Hadar Goldin and Oron Shaul, who had been held since 2014.
