Mikel Arteta disputes Gabriel Jesus' claims regarding Arsenal departure
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has responded to comments made by Gabriel Jesus regarding the striker's recent transfer to FC Barcelona. Jesus claimed that “no one said anything to him” about his departure from the club, suggesting a lack of communication during his exit.
Arteta expressed surprise at these statements, asserting that he held an individual discussion with the Brazilian player in the locker room. The manager stated that the conversation was primarily “one of gratitude.” Arteta acknowledged that delivering unexpected or negative news can lead to misunderstandings and stated, “If it has to be me, then it will be me,” referring to the difficult role of a manager in such situations.
Gabriel Jesus joined Barcelona in September on a contract lasting until 2029, following a season at Arsenal that was impacted by a serious knee injury. The striker had previously indicated that his situation changed toward the end of his tenure when he was reportedly required to train separately from the rest of the squad.
