Mikey Lewis defends England Rugby League World Cup selection

Mikey Lewis has addressed criticism regarding his inclusion in England’s Rugby League World Cup squad. Despite a challenging season with Hull KR, the 25-year-old halfback maintains that he has earned his place under head coach Brian McDermott.

Lewis was not part of the squad for England’s opening loss to Tonga but was brought on as a substitute during the team’s 82-0 victory over France. During his 20-minute appearance, he scored two tries. He noted that his specific instruction for the match was to ‘cause havoc’ on the field.

England faces a critical match against Papua New Guinea this Friday. Following their defeat to Tonga, the team’s progression to the semi-finals depends on a significant victory and the outcome of the match between Tonga and Samoa.
