Mikey Musumeci announces plans for MMA transition and UFC flyweight goal
Four-time BJJ world champion Mikey Musumeci has announced his intention to transition from grappling to mixed martial arts (MMA). Following his victory over UFC featherweight Bryce Mitchell at UFC BJJ 11 on September 24, Musumeci stated his goal is to compete in the UFC at 125 pounds and capture the flyweight championship.
Musumeci, who currently holds the UFC BJJ bantamweight title, intends to vacate his championship belt to focus on his MMA career. He has been training at Syndicate MMA in Las Vegas under John Wood and expressed a desire to make his professional MMA debut before the end of 2026.
In discussions regarding his transition, Musumeci noted that he is enjoying the training process and views himself as a student of the game again. He mentioned that his management is currently in talks with several MMA promotions as he decides which organization to join.
