Mikey Musumeci vacates UFC BJJ bantamweight title

Mikey Musumeci has vacated his UFC BJJ bantamweight championship to focus on training for a transition into mixed martial arts (MMA). The 30-year-old grappling specialist announced the decision on Friday, October 9, stating that he wants to prioritize his MMA training at this stage of his career.

Musumeci, who has not lost a match in his weight category for nearly a decade, intends to continue training in jiu-jitsu daily and remains open to participating in grappling super fights with UFC BJJ. He noted that his goal is to engage in a different style of jiu-jitsu to attract more viewers to the sport.

The vacancy alters the landscape for the upcoming UFC BJJ 13 event on October 29, where Jalen Fonacier and Kleber Barboza are now scheduled to compete for the vacant title. Musumeci’s career includes multiple titles from ONE Championship and four IBJJF world championships.
