Miki Matsubara reaches 500 million Spotify streams

Japanese singer Miki Matsubara has reached a major milestone on Spotify, with her hit song ‘Mayonaka no Door ~ Stay with Me’ surpassing 500 million total streams. This achievement marks the 10th highest streaming total for a Japanese artist and is the first for a song released in the 20th century.

In response to global interest in the City Pop genre, seven previously unreleased tracks are being made available for digital streaming and download. These include ‘Paradise Beach (Sophie’s Theme)’, a song composed by Haruomi Hosono of Yellow Magic Orchestra that served as the theme for a Maxell cassette tape commercial featuring actress Sophie Marceau.

The digital release, distributed by NexTone, includes six titles containing a total of 12 tracks, seven of which were previously unavailable on streaming platforms. Matsubara’s work continues to see renewed popularity among international DJs and Gen Z listeners, and ‘Mayonaka no Door ~ Stay with Me’ has been nominated for the Music Awards Japan 2026.
