Mikio Date of Sandwichman recovers from cerebral infarction

Mikio Date of the comedy duo Sandwichman is currently taking a hiatus to undergo treatment and rehabilitation following a diagnosis of cerebral infarction. His agency, Grape Company, announced that while the condition required hospitalization, rapid medical response prevented more serious complications.

During a Nippon Broadcasting radio program, comedian Nasu from the duo Nasunaka-nishi shared his own experience recovering from a cerebral infarction in late 2023. Nasu offered advice to Date, suggesting that showing the difficulties of recovery can help others understand and provide better support. Nasu noted that it took over two years for him to return to his previous performance level.

Singer Akiko Wada also expressed her support for Date on her radio program. She revealed that she was moved to tears by an email from Date, in which he expressed concern for her health despite his own condition. Wada encouraged Date to focus on his recovery without rushing, stating, “Everyone is waiting for you.”
