Mikio Date of Sandwichman suspends activities due to cerebral infarction

Mikio Date, a member of the popular comedy duo Sandwichman, has been diagnosed with a cerebral infarction and will temporarily suspend his activities to undergo hospital treatment. His management agency announced the news following the diagnosis on August 28.

His comedy partner, Takeshi Tomizawa, provided updates via a radio program, noting that Date has already begun rehabilitation and has been communicating frequently via email. While Date reportedly expressed a desire to return to work within the year, medical experts emphasize the importance of caution due to the high risk of recurrence in patients in their 50s.

Medical professionals warn that while many patients recover independence, the risk of a second stroke remains significant in the months following the initial event. Proper management of underlying conditions such as hypertension and diabetes is considered crucial for long-term recovery and prevention.
