Mikkel Andersen tops SGP2 world standings after Łódź victory

Danish speedway rider Mikkel Andersen won the second round of the SGP2 series at the Łódź Moto Arena in Poland. The victory moved him to the top of the overall world championship standings with 38 points, ten ahead of his nearest rival, and gives him a strong position ahead of the season‑final in Vojens, Denmark on 11 September.

Andersen’s win was accompanied by a strong performance from fellow Dane Nicolai Heiselberg, who secured third place despite a crash that prevented him from starting the final heat. William Drejer finished eighth and Villads Nagel ninth, with Nagel remaining third overall in the championship, keeping Denmark in contention for a world title.

The Danish team now looks to the Vojens finale, where Andersen could become the first Danish U21 world champion since Michael Jepsen Jensen in 2012.
