Mikkel Kessler announces professional boxing comeback at age 47
Former super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler is set to return to professional boxing at age 47. After a hiatus of more than 13 years, the Danish fighter will headline an MF Pro card in Brondby, Denmark, against Bernard Joseph on November 28.
Kessler, who holds a professional record of 46-3 with 35 knockouts, has expressed ambitions to compete for world titles again. His last professional bout was a 12-round decision loss to Carl Froch in May 2013.
Former rival and current friend Carl Froch expressed reservations regarding the comeback due to Kessler's age. While acknowledging that Kessler is fit and healthy, Froch questioned the motivation behind the return, suggesting it might be an attempt to avoid leaving the sport on a loss rather than a pursuit of significant financial gain.
