Miklós Seszták arrested in Hungarian corruption investigation
Miklós Seszták, the former Hungarian Minister of National Development, remains in custody following allegations of bribery and corruption. Authorities from the National Asset Recovery and Protection Office (NVVH) conducted a search at his residence in Kisvárda, where they discovered two massive Wertheim DWS1901 10 RE safes. Each safe weighs 1,660 kilograms and is typically used by financial service providers or pawnshops rather than private individuals. The safes were located in a soundproofed room secured by a safety door.
The investigation alleges that between 2015 and 2018, Seszták and the CEO of Magyar Nemzeti Vagyonkezelő (MNV) Zrt. received more than 11 billion forints in unlawful advantages through an intermediary representing companies contracted with Volánbusz.
The Budapest Central District Court extended Seszták's detention until January 30, citing the significant material weight of the alleged crimes, the potential severity of sentencing, and the risk of flight due to his extensive social and political connections.
