Miklušova Prison in Košice begins major reconstruction
Extensive reconstruction of the Miklušova Prison in Košice has begun as part of the cross-border #4museums project. The initiative, which focuses on the innovative protection and presentation of cultural heritage, is co-financed by the European Union through the Interreg Hungary-Slovakia Program.
The renovation aims to preserve the historical authenticity of the national cultural monument while modernizing its interior and exterior spaces. The project includes the creation of a new interactive exhibition covering the history of imprisonment and the judiciary from the 16th to the 19th centuries. Spanning nearly 1,000 square meters across three floors, the exhibition will utilize modern technologies such as holograms and virtual reality to complement authentic historical exhibits and original prison cells.
The total cost of the restoration and the development of the new exhibition is expected to be nearly three million euros.
