Mikołaj Dorożała resigns as Poland's Deputy Climate Minister

Mikołaj Dorożała has resigned from his positions as Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment and Chief Conservator of Nature in Poland. He had held these roles since 2023.

Dorożała cited his commitment to nature conservation as his primary motivation, criticizing purely utilitarian approaches to the environment. During his tenure, he was credited with halting logging in certain valuable forests, establishing over 200 new nature reserves, and managing the Białowieża Forest management plan consultations.

The resignation follows months of political tension. Reports indicate friction between Dorożała and other government figures, including Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and Minister Paulina Hennig-Kloska, regarding forestry and hunting policies. Some sources suggest the departure was due to differing visions for climate policy and disagreements with the Polish People's Party (PSL).

Sławomir Ćwik, a member of the Centrum club, is expected to succeed him as Deputy Minister, though he may not inherit all of Dorożała's specific competencies.
