Dominican authorities thwart alleged plot against President Abinader

Dominican authorities have arrested 29-year-old Delvinson De la Cruz Sosa in San Francisco de Macorís following an investigation into an alleged terrorist plot against President Luis Abinader. According to judicial orders, the attack was reportedly planned for November 6, 2026, during Constitution Day celebrations at the National Congress in Santo Domingo.

During the operation, which included searches of a residence in the Vista del Valle sector and the Ferretería Molina, where the suspect worked, officials seized electronic devices and chemical substances. The investigation was supported by the National Intelligence Directorate (DNI) and conducted by prosecutors from the San Francisco de Macorís judicial district.

In a separate security operation at the Caucedo Multimodal Port, the National Directorate for Drug Control (DNCD) and the Public Ministry seized 674 cans containing suspected cocaine. The cans were reportedly disguised to look like beans to evade detection. The shipment was destined for Portugal. Two men were arrested during the intervention, and authorities seized a tractor-trailer, mobile phones, and various documents.
