Milan allocates 13.3 million euros for metro escalator upgrades

The Milan City Council has approved a technical-economic feasibility project to allocate 13.3 million euros for the total renovation and replacement of escalators across the M1, M2, and M3 metro lines. The investment is part of the 2026-2028 Three-Year Public Works Plan and will be fully funded by the Municipality of Milan.

The budget is divided into 8 million euros for the M3 line (Phase 2, Lot 1) and 5.3 million euros for the M1 and M2 lines. The project aims to replace obsolete equipment that has reached the end of its technical life with advanced technology to improve service continuity, reduce maintenance costs, and lower energy consumption.

Key stations affected include Duomo, Cadorna, Garibaldi, Famagosta, and San Donato. Specific station works include Porta Venezia, Cadorna, and Bisceglie on the M1; Garibaldi, Gioia, Cadorna, and Famagosta on the M2; and San Donato, Corvetto, Brenta, Duomo, Turati, and Sondrio on the M3.
