Milan approves new pedestrian zone in De Angeli district

The Milan City Council has approved the pedestrianization of via Luigi Sacco in the De Angeli district. The intervention covers the stretch between the intersections of via Giuseppe Frua and via Seprio, extending to piazza Sicilia and the junction with via dei Gracchi.

The project aims to increase safety for students at the Umberto Eco Comprehensive Institute during school hours and to improve access to the municipal library located in the adjacent piazza Sicilia park. The urban transformation will include new street furniture and potted plants to complement existing trees, creating a social space for residents of all ages.

Mobility Councilor Arianna Censi noted that in 2025, the city has converted 20,000 square meters into pedestrian zones, bringing the total pedestrianized area to over 886,032 square meters. While the plan aims to reclaim public space, it also addresses local traffic redistribution. Access to the new pedestrian zone will be restricted to authorized vehicles, including emergency services, law enforcement, civil protection, vehicles serving people with disabilities, and zero-emission transport such as bicycles.
