Milan Court acquits Le Iene journalists in Garlasco defamation case

The Milan Court of Appeal has acquitted Riccardo Festinese and Alessandro De Giuseppe, journalists for the television program ‘Le Iene’, of aggravated defamation charges brought by Stefania Cappa. The ruling overturns a previous lower court decision that had imposed fines and damages.

The legal dispute centered on a 2022 investigative report regarding the Garlasco murder case. The report featured statements from Marco Muschitta, who claimed to have seen Cappa near the crime scene on the morning of the murder before later retracting his testimony. While the initial court ruled that the program presented a partial and insinuating view of the facts, the Court of Appeal found the journalistic representation to be correct.

Despite this acquittal, reports indicate that five other defamation complaints against correspondent Alessandro De Giuseppe remain under investigation.
