Milan Diocese Pilgrimage Traces Sacred Family Path in Egypt

The Archdiocese of Milan, together with the Diocesan Pastoral Service for Tourism and Pilgrimages and travel agency Duomo Viaggi, will organize a pilgrimage from November 16 to 22, 2026 that follows the route of the Holy Family’s flight to Egypt. The itinerary, promoted by the Academy Ambrosiana’s African Studies Department, includes about twenty‑five sites such as Bubasti, Mostorod, the Coptic Cairo area, Wadi El Natrun, the Church of Abu Serga and the sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin at Jabal al‑Tayr.

The group will be accompanied by Monsignor Francesco Braschi, a scholar of the Ambrosian Library, and will meet representatives of Egypt’s various Christian confessions, including a formal audience with Pope Tawadros II of the Coptic Orthodox Church. The pilgrimage aims to foster ecumenical dialogue, highlight Egypt’s Christian heritage—now being promoted for UNESCO listing—and deepen participants’ faith experience.
