Milan hospitals under investigation after death of two-year-old girl

A two-year-old girl has died at the Buzzi Children's Hospital in Milan following an emergency transfer from the Rho hospital. The child was initially taken to the Rho emergency room due to severe abdominal pain, which appeared to be related to constipation. Her condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to cardiac arrest and her subsequent death at the Buzzi facility.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the death. The Milan Prosecutor's Office is opening a file for manslaughter, and doctors from both medical facilities are expected to be formally registered as suspects to allow for an autopsy and further investigation.

The Lombardy Region's Welfare Directorate has ordered the Ats Città Metropolitana di Milano to establish a commission to verify the medical procedures and the care pathway followed by the child. Regional Welfare Assessor Guido Bertolaso expressed condolences to the family and confirmed that the incident has been reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office.
