Milan hosts major theater festivals Fringe Milano Off and FOOLS

Milan is hosting significant theatrical events this autumn, highlighted by the tenth edition of Fringe Milano Off and the inaugural FOOLS Festival.

Fringe Milano Off features 55 shows across 45 locations and 20 different spaces throughout the city. The festival includes international productions, such as the Osaka-based Theatre Group Gumbo, whose performance ‘Are you lovin’ it?’ uses physical theater and clownery to critique American cultural imperialism and consumerism.

Simultaneously, the FOOLS Festival (Il Festival dei Giullari) is being held at Teatro Oscar and Teatro degli Angeli until October 11. The festival focuses on comedy as a tool for social commentary and includes the first Garpez Prize for emerging comedians under 35, which was won by Gianluca Borsieri. Organizers emphasized the importance of live performance and the ‘agora’ value of shared physical spaces compared to social media interaction.
