Milan launches public consultation for new M6 metro line

The City of Milan has launched a participatory process to determine the route of the future M6 metro line. This initiative marks the first time the administration has implemented a formal public consultation and listening process for a major mobility project of this scale.

The program, managed by a group consisting of Poliedra (Politecnico di Milano), Ascolto Attivo, and Left Loft, will span six months and is scheduled to conclude in March 2027. The process will include at least 12 scheduled events, such as workshops, laboratories, and public meetings, involving citizens, associations, committees, and experts. The first meeting is set for October 24 at the Palazzina Appiani in Parco Sempione.

Proposed scenarios for the M6 include various configurations, ranging from a 28 km “circle line” to more traditional routes connecting peripheral neighborhoods. The goal is to analyze technical criteria, study results, and potential impacts on local districts to provide designers with a comprehensive framework of community proposals. Officials noted that this approach aligns with European standards for shared administration and sustainable urban development.
