Milan: Mario Calabresi faces scrutiny over potential mayoral candidacy

Journalist Mario Calabresi is facing scrutiny regarding a potential candidacy for Mayor of Milan representing the center-left. Following reports of his candidacy, Calabresi has stepped down from his roles as editorial director of Chora Media and chairman of the board of Be Water Content.

Political reactions to his potential run are divided. Roberto Formigoni argued that while Calabresi might attract moderate voters, the radical left influence within the supporting coalition would likely deter them. Conversely, regional councilor Luca Paladini criticized the idea of appointing non-political figures to lead the metropolis, labeling the trend of seeking outsiders to solve political issues as a dangerous and populist shortcut.

Within the center-left, other potential candidates such as Pierfrancesco Majorino and Anna Scavuzzo have been noted, highlighting internal competition and varying strategic approaches for the upcoming municipal elections.
