Milan official hospitalized after snake bite in Cilento

Elisa Scarano, president of Municipality 6 in Milan, was hospitalized in Naples after being bitten by a snake, suspected to be a viper, in Pioppi, located in the Cilento region of Italy.

Following the incident, Scarano was initially treated at San Luca Hospital in Vallo della Lucania. However, she reported that the facility lacked the necessary antivenom, necessitating her transfer to the Cardarelli Hospital in Naples for specialized treatment and blood transfusions. Scarano described her condition as critical, noting symptoms such as swelling and vomiting.

In response to the incident, Scarano has called for an urgent review of medical protocols and pharmaceutical supplies in the Cilento National Park area. She urged regional health authorities in Campania and the Salerno ASL to ensure that local hospitals in high-traffic tourist zones are adequately equipped to handle such emergencies.
