Milan police officers arrested in illegal arrest investigation

An investigation into an alleged illegal arrest in Corsico has led to the arrest of five Milan local police officers on charges including embezzlement and ideological falsehood. While Commissioner Ilenja Sabato was granted house arrest following an interrogation where she provided an extensive statement, the other four officers—Mattia Rignanese, Denni Dileo, Vincenzo Compagnone, and Rosario Piscopo—remain in custody at San Vittore prison. The judge, Elio Sparacino, cited a high risk of evidence tampering for the remaining four, noting their partially confessory statements and claims of memory loss regarding recent events.

The case has sparked political controversy after it was revealed that two of the arrested officers had previously received awards from the Lombardy Region. Michele Albiani, a Milan city councilor, criticized the regional government's recognition system, questioning how officers involved in ongoing legal issues could be honored. Meanwhile, Milan prosecutors are proceeding with the investigation by analyzing seized mobile phones from the suspects.
