Milan politicians condemn Roberto Vannacci over Rogoredo comments
Controversy has erupted in Milan following comments by Roberto Vannacci, who suggested he would know how to ‘rastrellare’ (sweep/raid) the Rogoredo district. Vannacci made the remarks while presenting former general Carmelo Burgio as a mayoral candidate for Futuro Nazionale.
The use of the term ‘rastrellamento’ has drawn sharp criticism from political leaders and historical associations. Democratic Party (PD) representative Emanuele Fiano described the rhetoric as ‘disgusting,’ accusing Vannacci of attempting to gain votes by exploiting fears and insecurities. Fiano noted that in the context of Milan, the word carries heavy historical weight, recalling the Nazi-Fascist massacre of August 10, 1944.
Milan Deputy Mayor Anna Scavuzzo also condemned the language, emphasizing the importance of using words as tools to build democracy rather than abusing them. Primo Minelli, president of the provincial ANPI, criticized the rhetoric as fascist, stating that such dramatic terminology should not be normalized in democratic discourse.
