Milan Popović discusses Serbian economy and political future
Serbian businessman Milan Popović, often referred to as the ‘king of copper’, shared insights into his life, business, and views on the country’s political and economic direction during an appearance on Kurir television’s ‘Neispričano’.
Regarding the political landscape, Popović expressed support for the economic trajectory of the country under Aleksandar Vučić. He stated that the nation would ‘lament and suffer’ for Vučić as president and expressed hope that Vučić would continue current economic development if elected as prime minister. Popović noted that while rising wages increase costs for employers, they improve living standards and increase tax revenue for infrastructure, healthcare, and education.
Popović also addressed his personal history, detailing his journey from moving to Switzerland in 1985 to building a successful business. He touched upon his early career working with financier Marko Ric and his eventual success in the non-ferrous metals industry.
Additionally, the businessman discussed a long-standing legal dispute regarding the custody of his son, Alexander, and his philosophy on philanthropy, stating he views his wealth as a resource to be distributed to those in need.
