Milan riots prompt proposal to ban social media for violent offenders
Following violent clashes in Milan and other Italian cities, journalist Pierluigi Diaco has proposed a ban on social media use for individuals convicted of violent crimes, including minors. Speaking on the program ‘BellaMa’’, Diaco suggested that removing social media access would serve as a form of punishment by stripping offenders of their digital identity.
The proposal comes in the wake of significant unrest where protesters attacked shops, smashed storefronts, and threw stones at police. Reports indicate that 270 individuals were taken into police custody, with 200 identified as minors. Diaco criticized the violence, distinguishing it from legitimate peaceful protests organized by unions or political groups, and attributed the behavior to a generation influenced by social media.
