Milan Simčić celebrates 100th birthday

Monsignor Milan Simčić, the oldest priest of the Archdiocese of Rijeka, celebrated his 100th birthday on September 19. The jubilee was marked by a Mass held at the seminary chapel in Rijeka, led by Archbishop Mate Uzinić and attended by retired Archbishop Ivan Devčić, various clergy members, and relatives.

Born in Klana in 1926, Simčić spent much of his priestly career serving in the Vatican, including work within the Congregation for the Clergy. His service spanned several papacies, with a notable connection to the pontificate of Pope Saint John Paul II.

During the celebration, Simčić reflected on his life and called for unity among believers, stating that national differences hold no weight before God. He expressed his hope that his centenary would serve as an inspiration for new priestly vocations.
