Milan works to improve urban accessibility and inclusion

Milan is working toward greater urban accessibility through the Plan for the Elimination of Architectural Barriers (PEBA). While the city is viewed as a modern hub, individuals with disabilities still face significant daily challenges due to physical barriers and incomplete transport infrastructure.

Public transportation is a critical factor for autonomy. ATM has made progress by making all urban buses and trolleybuses accessible, as well as the M1, M3, M4, and M5 metro lines. However, full network accessibility remains a work in progress. Current data indicates that approximately 83% of metro stations (98 out of 119) are accessible. While the M3, M4, and M5 lines are fully accessible, the M1 and M2 lines have lower coverage, often requiring travelers to take detours or longer routes.
