Milaneza launches high-protein pasta amid nutritional focus on protein quality
The food brand Milaneza has launched a new product line, ‘Milaneza Proteína’, aimed at integrating higher protein content into everyday meals. The range includes Fusilli and Penne pasta made from selected durum wheat and wheat protein, providing 20 grams of protein per 100 grams along with fiber. The company intends to meet the growing consumer demand for protein-rich foods without requiring significant changes to traditional eating habits.
In a broader nutritional context, experts emphasize that protein quality and individual needs are more critical than simply increasing intake. A 2024 study from the University of Pittsburgh, published in Nature Metabolism, highlighted potential negative impacts of excessive protein consumption.
Dr. Sylvia Ramuth, technical director at Emagrecentro, notes that protein requirements vary based on age, sex, and activity levels. For sedentary adults, the recommended intake is approximately 0.8 grams per kilogram of body weight, while active individuals may require between 1.2 and 2.0 grams. High-quality protein sources, whether animal or plant-based, are essential for providing the necessary amino acids for tissue repair and hormone production.
